Energy
Large generators are widely used in the energy industry, mainly reflected in the following aspects:
###Thermal power generation
-Coal power generation is the main method of traditional thermal power generation. A large generator is connected to a steam turbine, and coal combustion produces high-temperature and high-pressure steam, which drives the steam turbine to rotate and then drives the generator rotor to cut magnetic induction lines, converting mechanical energy into electrical energy. This method has a high power generation capacity, can meet large-scale electricity demand, and has stable power generation. It can flexibly adjust the power generation according to the electricity load. For example, many large thermal power plants in China are equipped with supercritical and ultra supercritical coal-fired power generation units, with a single unit capacity of up to 1 million kilowatts or more, providing strong support for stable power supply to the grid.
-Gas power generation: Using the high-temperature and high-pressure gas generated by the combustion of natural gas to drive the rotation of gas turbines and generate electricity for generators. Gas turbines start quickly and can quickly respond to changes in grid load, making them suitable for peak shaving power generation. Meanwhile, gas-fired power generation is cleaner and emits fewer pollutants compared to coal-fired power generation. Some large-scale gas steam combined cycle power plants can achieve a comprehensive power generation efficiency of over 60%, playing an important role in energy structure adjustment.
###Hydroelectric power generation
-* * Large hydropower station * *: By constructing dams to intercept water flow, a water level drop is formed. The water flows through pressure steel pipes and impacts the turbine wheel, causing the turbine to rotate and then drive the generator to generate electricity. Large hydro generators have a large single unit capacity, reaching tens of thousands or even millions of kilowatts. For example, the Three Gorges Hydropower Station is equipped with 32 hydroelectric generators with a single capacity of 700000 kilowatts, with a total installed capacity of 22.4 million kilowatts. It is one of the largest hydropower stations in the world and provides a large amount of clean electricity to the central and eastern regions of China.
-Pumped storage power station: It has multiple functions such as peak shaving and valley filling, frequency regulation, phase regulation, and emergency backup. During periods of low electricity consumption, the water from the lower reservoir is pumped to the upper reservoir for storage, converting electrical energy into the gravitational potential energy of the water; During peak electricity usage, the water from the upper reservoir is released to generate electricity, converting the gravitational potential energy of the water into electrical energy. The generator of a large-scale pumped storage power station can serve as both an electric motor to drive the water pump to pump water and a generator to operate under power generation conditions, effectively regulating the supply and demand balance of the power system and improving the stability and reliability of the power grid operation.
###Nuclear power generation
-The heat generated by a nuclear reactor turns water into high-temperature and high-pressure steam, which drives the turbine to rotate and then drives the generator to generate electricity. Nuclear power generation has high energy density, low fuel consumption, and does not emit greenhouse gases and pollutants, making it a clean and efficient energy source. For example, China's Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station, Qinshan Nuclear Power Station, and other nuclear power plants have all adopted large nuclear power units with continuously increasing single unit capacity, making important contributions to the country's energy supply. Meanwhile, with the continuous development of technology, new nuclear power generation technologies such as high-temperature gas cooled reactors and fast reactors are gradually being promoted and applied, and large generators also play a key role in these advanced nuclear energy systems.
###Other new energy generation
-Wind power generation: In large wind farms, wind turbines convert wind energy into electrical energy. With the continuous advancement of wind power generation technology, the single unit capacity has been increasing, from tens of kilowatts in the early days to several megawatts or even tens of megawatts now. The blade diameter of large wind turbines can reach hundreds of meters, and the hub height can reach tens or even hundreds of meters, which can more effectively utilize high-altitude wind energy resources. Through grid connected operation, large wind farms can deliver a large amount of wind power to the grid and play an important role in renewable energy generation.
-Biomass power generation: Using the heat energy generated by the combustion of biomass (such as crop straw, forestry waste, livestock manure, etc.) to convert it into electrical energy. Large biomass power plants usually use specialized biomass boilers to convert biomass fuel into high-temperature and high-pressure steam, which drives the steam turbine to generate electricity. This power generation method can not only achieve comprehensive utilization of biomass resources, reduce environmental pollution, but also provide electricity supply for rural and remote areas, promoting local economic development.
